I’m an Editor by day, but after work, I’m a mom and volunteer. I’ve had the opportunity to be the “PTA” president this past year (and next school year to come) and have enjoyed fundraising, planning events, and the social network I’ve been a part of with other parents. I was recently asked by another mom to check out this app that her son had made for a school project. He needed people to review the app and then answers to some questions for the project.
4th Grade in Elk Grove, CA
“As part of a school project, my son created an app to assist residents of Elk Grove in locating places to dispose or recycle certain household waste.
Here is the link:
He can’t publish it on Google Play because it requires disclosure of certain personal info (since he is not a business). This is for Android devices only.”
I got really excited about this request from my friend. I immediately added it to my phone, checked the app out, and answered his questions. I was even more excited that Jadon was a 4th grader who not only thought of the app, but understood the need for it and is encouraging local residents to put it to use! The App is called POE “Protect Our Environment”. When you click on the select waste item you are disposing of, it will take you to a location(s) or website where you can look up a location.
It doesn’t stop there! Jadon also arranged for a presentation by Republic Services (our local waste management company) to come and talk to the children at his school about recycling. I attended the assembly and was thrilled to see 30 minutes of education for approximately 300 students on what can be recycled, how to recycle it, and how to avoid items that need to go into a landfill (by using relatable examples of the movies Lorax and WALL-E).
I think Jadon has something here - and I would love to see this app on everyone’s phone and utilized, worldwide!
